The total cost of the contract is $136,000. Painting should start the third week of September. Ekim will provide 48 hours advance notice prior to doing any work on your unit. PAINT INFO After weeks of planning and preparation, it looks like we are finally getting close to actual painting! A lot of hard work went into this and all efforts are appreciated! The three background colors are nicely spaced about The Glen and came out to be about 1/3 for each color. The highlight color was also almost evenly split with 32 choices for Redwood and 28 choosing Blue. There will be 18 colored front doors with the rest being Navajo White. We hope everyone found something in their choosing that they like. Most all lattices have now been cleared of vines; the remaining will be done in the next weeks. The damage to some fences from overgrown vines may prompt guidelines for what can be planted after the painting is completed. These plantings need to be kept manageable. Our gardeners have also been busy trimming bushes. Please allow them to trim where they need to. Bushes must be at window sill height and away from the building. We’ll try to keep you as informed as possible on painting issues. Watch for notices by the mailboxes. WELCOMING/LEAVING Leaving us in June was Miriam Edwards, #59. We welcome the new owners Jeff and Napisa Pollock and little Mia. (Yes, this is the same little Mia you see spending her days with her Nana in #9). Also, moving into #94 from NYC are new resident owners Daniil and Marina Golubev. Renting #38 are Deborah Kaufman, Talia Fittante, and Ahmy. In #54 is Wendy and Tim Lott and little 2 year old daughter Jaik. In #84 is Richard and Connie Gray, daughter Jayce who attends PG High, and pet Midnight. And just moving into #76 is Zoe and James Sherman with their 4 year old son William. Welcome to all our new neighbors! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED There is always a need for volunteers. The Board is currently looking for someone to assist the Secretary in publishing this newsletter and in scanning documents for uploading to our website. If you are interested in volunteering, please call us or speak to any Board member. A special thank-you to Rodger Axt for painting stripes on the new speed bumps and for re-painting the strips on the old speed bumps. SPEEDING The addition of the speed bumps has slowed traffic in The Glen. However, there are still speeders. Continued speeding is no different than a guest parking violation and will be treated as such. PLEASE SLOW DOWN TO 15 MPH! GUEST PARKING If you live here, you can’t park in guest parking. It is that simple. If you are loading or unloading, or occasionally doing some work in your garage, then you may briefly park there. That is occasionally; not routinely! P.G. POLICE SURVEY Pacific Grove residents recently were mailed a survey about police service. The back page gives you an opportunity to write something. This is a place for us to ask for increased patrols of Arnett Park after dark. Please take a moment and do this. It is due mid September. PIGEONS The pigeon population is again mounting. Please do not leave bird seed about and please do not feed the ducks. Help us control this situation. AVOIDING MOSQUITOES Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been identified in Monterey County. Ways we can avoid mosquitoes: * spend as little time as possible outdoors, especially at dawn and the first 2 hours after sunset; * wear long sleeves; * use repellent containing DEET; * secure window screens; * eliminate standing water (birdbaths, buckets, etc.). BOOK CLUB Do you like to read? A ladies book club has been formed in The Glen. We meet the first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm for book discussion, refreshments, and fun! See Sharon Axt in #13 for more information. BOARD ELECTIONS We are getting close to our annual meeting where we will elect two directors. It is not too early to start thinking about running. This year we are asking anyone interested in running for the board to submit a short paper on why they wish to serve on the board and any experiences or qualifications they may have. Computer access is not required but is most helpful as much communication between board members is done by e-mail. A separate mailing will be coming out soon with this information. CONTACT US The large mailbox at the mail station across from #100 is for incoming mail to The Glen and also for messages from you to a board member. Please sign any communication placed here. We occasionally receive a suggestion or idea and it would be nice to discuss them with the sender. And you can always call the phone line and leave a message; someone will try to get back to you in 24 hours. BIG GARBAGE PICKUP DAY The next big garbage pick-up day for PG is 9/22. You may put out up to 7 extra containers on that day. No furniture or bulky items. CALL THE MAYOR The area around Piedmont and Moreland Streets is quickly resembling a parking lot for commercial vehicles. If you are tired of looking at trucks and campers parked on the streets (or if you are concerned about the re-sale value of your unit, call the Mayor’s office (648-3100) and ask him or Don Gasperson, Mayor Pro-Tem, to ban commercial trucks from parking on the streets in our neighborhood. WRITE TO ARNOLD The Glen belongs to ECHO, the Executive Council of Homeowners, a nonprofit membership corporation of 1,450 homeowner associations dedicated to assisting California homeowners associations. ECHO is asking its members to write to Governor Arnold to veto AB2598 and SB1682. AB2598 would prohibit foreclosure until the unpaid assessment reached $2500. SB1682 would render any foreclosure of lien for delinquent assessments over $2,500 infeasible in most cases because of the homestead exemption. POLICE ACADEMY The Pacific Grove Police department is sponsoring a Citizen Police Academy. Classes meet on a weekday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for 12 weeks. Students are introduced to community-based police services. Training topics include ethics, internal affairs, drug enforcement, traffic laws, criminal investigations, and firearm safety. Classes start next year. If you are interested in attending, call the Police Department at 648-3143 and request an application. For more information, call Lt. Tom Uretsky at 648-3151. NEXT BOARD MEETING September 21, 2004 at 4:45 at a location to be announced. All residents are entitled to attend.
